Dr. Nashwan J. Sebi is a Visiting Assistant Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Oakland University. His work spans explainable artificial intelligence, autonomous systems, automotive mechatronics, robotics, electric circuits, electronic circuits and devices, embedded systems, electric and hybrid vehicles, and engineering education.
His academic career brings research, hands-on teaching, graduate mentorship, competition leadership, STEM outreach, and industry collaboration into one mission: preparing engineers to create intelligent systems that are transparent, reliable, and useful.

Dr. Sebi’s courses unite analytical foundations with original MATLAB/Simulink demonstrations, laboratory experimentation, embedded implementation, robotics platforms, and team-based engineering design.

Courses Taught
Student evaluations consistently reflect strong teaching effectiveness, course organization, responsiveness, and the integration of engineering theory with practical learning.
Dr. Sebi maintains an extensive annual commitment to teaching, graduate mentorship, university service, and community engagement. In a typical calendar year, he teaches approximately seven to nine regular university course offerings, delivers one to two professional certificate course offerings through the Stellantis–Oakland University Propulsion Certificate Program, and supervises two to three graduate independent studies. He also serves on Ph.D. dissertation and master’s thesis committees and, on average, examines one doctoral student through the Ph.D. qualifying examination process each year. Dr. Sebi advises the Oakland Robotics Association and serves as Co-Chair of the Intelligent Ground Vehicle Competition. In addition, he participates in approximately two to three academic conferences or high-school STEM, robotics, and engineering outreach events and attends approximately two School of Engineering and Computer Science and ECE departmental events each year.
Serves as a member of multiple Ph.D. dissertation and advisory committees, supporting doctoral students through research development, dissertation review, qualifying examinations, and degree completion. Dr. Sebi also supervises Independent Study courses for Ph.D. and M.S. students in artificial intelligence, robotics, autonomous vehicles, embedded systems, and control.
